Step 10 Daily Reprieve

In Step 3, I decided a Higher Power would direct my life, so Step 10 is acting as if my personality has changed by simple practice of Steps 4 – 9. Now, in Real-Time, on a Daily Basis. I live in constant ‘Spot-Check Inventory’ (12x12,Pg.90,¶1,L4) by WATCHing my Attitude for selfish, dishonest, resentful or fearful thoughts that block out God's Power. "When these crop up, we ASK God at Once to remove them" (Pg.84,¶2,L23) Then I consult someone immediately and quickly amend any harm, to clear my conscience. I thank God for my clarity by TURNing my Thoughts to someone I can help.

  1. Can I, “continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes, as I clean up my past?” (Pg.84,¶2,L3), (one day at a time).
  2. Have I, “entered the world of the Spirit, willing to grow in understanding and effectiveness?” (Pg.84,¶2,L6), (a personality change).
  3. a) Can I, “watch myself for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment and fear” (Step 4), “then immediately ask God to remove it?” (Step 7), b) Will I, “discuss my discomfort with someone,” (Step 5), then, “quickly make amends if I hurt anyone?” (Step 9). c) Do I see how purposefully or, “resolutely turning my thoughts to someone I can help,” will help me get over myself? (Step 12). (Pg.84,¶2,L8).
  4. Will I live with, “love and tolerance of others as my code,” of conduct? (Pg.84,¶2,L14), (simple but not easy).
  5. Have I, “ceased fighting anything or anyone, even alcohol/drugs, because sanity has returned?” (sanity is returned, before my will power gets aligned, Pg.85), (Pg.84,¶3,L2).
  6. Do I see my, “new attitude just comes, that’s the miracle of it… I react sanely and normally,” (because my drinking/using), “problem has been effortlessly removed?” (Pg.85,Top¶,L1).
  7. Do I believe I’ve, “been placed in a position of neutrality, safe and protected ... the problem has been removed” (Pg.85,Top¶,L6).
  8. Can I act, “neither cocky nor afraid,” (because I’m experiencing God’s Grace), “so long as I keep in fit Spiritual condition?” (Pg.85,Top¶,L10).
  9. a) Do I realize I’m, “not cured of alcoholism/addiction, what I have is a daily reprieve contingent on... carrying the vision of God’s will into all of my activities?” (Step 11). b) But I, “can exercise my will power along this line all I wish.” (Step 7). (Pg.85,¶1,L15)
  10. a) Do I believe asking, “How can I best serve Thee, Thy will (not mine) be done” (Pg.85,¶2,L18), “allows His Spirit to flow into me?” b) Have I, “to some extent, become God-Conscious,” and, “begin developing this vital 6th sense?” (Pg.85,¶2,L26).

I depend on, 5 Human Senses; Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste & Touch. But now I tap into a; Vital 6th sense; 'God consciousness'. A Spiritually Awakening has changed my will and my life noticeably, by “a personality change sufficient to bring about recovery from alcoholism/addiction” (Pg.568,¶1,L3). But the Big Book warns, “I must go further and that means more action” (Pg.85,¶2,L30),

“God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16). Fear is a destructive emotion like; anger, hatred and jealousy. Love is a creative feeling like joy, interest and appreciation. When I’m driven by fear, I act; Destructive. But God is Love, so with Him, I act; Creatively. So my selfishness becomes obvious when compared to God’s will for us. ~ (Thanks, Emmit Fox)

Step 10 Daily Reprieve

“Above everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness. We must, or it kills us!” (BBp62).

Like a dog chasing its tail, I spin out of control. Because will power cannot control my selfishness, without killing my spirit. Only God’s Power saves me from myself.

“Only a mind turned inward Will find a still-point of peace” (Tao-Entertainment).

Taoist's regard reality as mind projection, subjective and relative. Peeling away my bias does not reveal objectivity, but a kernel of truth that absorbs confusion and reflects peace.

“Slavery resides under marble and gold” (Seneca).

Chasing luxurious security by submitting to another’s demands costs me peace of mind and self esteem. A prisoner of selfish desires, living in a jail of my own making. Spiritual freedom is relying on God’s Grace.

“Judge not …appearance, but judge righteous judgment” (John 7:24).

Treatment as a Spiritual term means praying to realize God’s presence in anybody or thing. His Power makes changes for the better and heals things, once I acknowledge Him, here and now.
